Morning routine

People ask me sometimes what I do now that I am "retired" from my former work as a dental hygienist. "A little of this and that" is what I tell them. But how do you put into words the pleasure you get from getting up when your body wakes you up, making a pot of coffee and carrying it out to the deck to watch the wildlife begin their day? This morning my body was feeling ache-y so I was slow moving so Gene and sat in our deck rockers while we waited for the coffee to finish and just watched the birds flying back and forth to the feeder. One doe comes running across the yard like she is spooked and behind her is another walking cautiously into the garden area. Sometimes she has her twin fawns with her, this morning she was alone.
She begins walking closer and closer and she realizes we are sitting there on the deck so she is really nervous. As we watch she walks up to the bird feeder not ten feet away from where we were sitting and lifts her snout up to one of the holes on the side and proceeds to lick sunflower seeds out of the feeder with her tongue. I tried to take her picture while she was doing this but she heard the camera and stopped eating. She watched us for a couple of minutes and decided she had enough and walked away. How cool was that? I do enjoy this part of my life, the garden isn't just about plants, it is also about the creatures....

Morning routine...PRICELESS!

  1. Oh yes! I'm glad I can experience a little of the retired life when I'm on summer break from school. Love that picture of the hawk, LaVonda! Nice shot! Those fawns are so darn cute
